Hurricane Katrina Appeal

The American Red Cross is mounting its largest-ever relief operation as the situation in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida worsens in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Tens of thousands of people have literally been made refugees, and hundreds if not thousands have died.

The American Red Cross is operating 250 shelters in 7 American states, in which over 42,000 people are seeking refuge. Many of these people have been left homeless. Many have lost loved ones. The scope of this disaster means resources are stretched. The Red Cross provides these tens of thousands of people with emergency aid: shelter, food, and water.
