Meet The Team: March 2008

It takes a lot of monkeys to keep the DS machine turning, you know. Read on for profiles of the esteemed members of our team - and be warned, there are pictures.

Every month we ask the team a different question. For MARCH, the question is... Who is the better human being: Richard Briers or Richard Wilson?

Neil Wilkes
Editor
(contact)

As editor of Digital Spy and spinoff Big Brother site DS:BB, Neil is responsible for overseeing all content on the network, including planning, production and publishing. Neil also handles staff management and the site's creative development, working on new ideas and projects.

Question of the month answer: "I vote for Richard BRIERS. Contrary to the unfounded allegations of some, he is a gentleman to all and holds former Good Life colleague Penelope Keith in the highest of regards, I am sure. Furthermore his welcoming English tones would make any lad want to sit on his knee."

James Welsh
Systems Administrator

As Digital Spy's systems administrator, James manages a network of 24 servers, numerous content management systems, and the site's coding and design. In addition to his technical responsibilities, James oversees Digital Spy's international news coverage.

Question of the month answer: "I would very much like to lodge my vote for Richard WILSON. I have still not forgiven Mr. Briers for his disgraceful treatment of on-screen wife Barbara, played by the delightful Felicity Kendal - at one stage, as I recall, he made her repeatedly polish an Aga."

Alan Jay
Business Director
(contact)

Alan handles many of Digital Spy's business operations, including liason with our advertising sales team and co-ordination of expenditure. With a keen interest in home entertainment, Alan also produces inside reports on upcoming hardware releases.

Daniel Saney
Deputy Editor

Dan serves as the site's primary news moderator, editing and approving most of the content on the network, in addition to updating the front page with the most relevant stories. He is also editor of the movies section.

Nick Levine
Music Editor

Nick manages the music section and is responsible for planning all feature output, including reviews and interviews. He also edits the popular Gay Spy area of the site and produces the weekly Celebrity Chart feature.

Question of the month answer: "I would have to say Richard Wilson. I think Richard Briers trades on past glories a bit these days, and he was only my fourth favourite character in The Good Life anyway. Penelope Keith would just about beat the consistently excellent Richard Wilson, and Felicity Kendal might have a shot on a good day, but Richards Briers? Not a chance."

Kris Green
Soaps Editor

Kris is responsible for all output in the most popular section of the site, including provision of news, spoilers and interviews.

Dave West
Media Correspondent

Dave joined us in October 2005 as an entertainment reporter but was promoted to the post of media correspondent in February 2008. In this role, he provides news and feature pieces for the media section, as well as news and interviews for the TV area.

Question of the month answer: "I was very nearly convinced by pressure from the Briers side but am sticking by my principles and voting Richard Wilson. Because he is basically more funny."

Alex Fletcher
Entertainment Reporter

Alex joined DS in May 2007 as a Big Brother reporter and was appointed to the entertainment team later that summer. In addition to his news reporting duties, Alex produces regular music reviews and interviews.

Question of the month answer: "While I may have enjoyed many a chuckle at Richard Wilson's work on One Foot In The Grave, I fear he was just a one trick pony. Plus, I'm a big admirer of Briers's voiceover work on Roobarb and Custard. So my vote goes to Richard Briers."

Daniel Kilkelly
Entertainment Reporter

One of Digital Spy's longest-serving reporters, Daniel produces news content at weekends.

Question of the month answer: "Luckily I have heard of both people at the centre of the debate this month, but I'm going to go for Richard Wilson as he's managed to make me laugh in two of my favourite comedies, One Foot In The Grave (obviously) and Father Ted."

Beth Hilton
Entertainment Reporter

Having worked as a Big Brother reporter, Beth joined the entertainment team full time in October 2007, providing news reports and the weekly showbiz features Ten Things and Celebrity Birthdays.

Question of the month answer: "After being 'urged' to vote for Richard Briers by certain high-up members of staff, I am asserting my independence and voting for Richard Wilson. I for one refuse to kowtow to such shameless attempts at blackmail/intimidation."

Simon Reynolds
Entertainment Reporter

Simon joined DS as an entertainment reporter in February 2008.

Ben Rawson-Jones
Cult Editor

Ben joined DS in September 2006 and now works primarily in the cult section, producing show spoilers, reviews, news and recaps, in addition to the weekly Cult Spy feature. Ben also moonlights in the movies section with weekly reviews for the 'DS At The Movies' column.

Question of the month answer: "Richard Briers is better because his 1987 Doctor Who performance, playing both a caretaker and a megalomaniacal architect, was a beacon of dramatic integrity and restraint. When Richard Wilson came to do Who, I kept praying for him to whine 'I don't believe it!' - especially when his face started to transform into a gas mask!"

David Gibbon
Gaming Editor

David helped launch the Gaming section of the site when he joined the team in February 2007, producing news, reviews and feature pieces.

Dek Hogan
Resident Critic

Dek has been with Digital Spy since 2002 and serves as our resident critic for all things television. As well as a weekly TV Diary, Dek also publishes regular columns in the Big Brother and X Factor areas of the site.

Raphael Clairefond
Production Assistant

Raphael joined Digital Spy in October 2007 on an eight-month placement from France. He is responsible for co-ordinating all competitions and the Star Snaps picture galleries, in addition to picture and video editing duties.

> Click here for Raphael's behind-the-scenes blog 'Diary of a French Intern'

David La Rosa
Production Assistant

David's primary role is to provide support for the content team with image requests, in addition to duties on the forums.

Question of the month answer: "While One Foot In The Grave was an absolute classic, I must say that I prefer in Richard Briers. Not much can beat an accomplished Shakespearean actor who's been in Torchwood!"

Olly Mitchell
Production Assistant

Olly's primary role is to encode and add video clips to the TV, movies and gaming areas of the site.

Question of the month answer: "I don't BELIEVE it. Not even a competition, Richard Wilson all the way."

James Fiddy, Tom Miller and Jay Seery
Forum Support Team

James, Tom and Jay - their mugshots withheld for reasons of personal safety - are among the team that provides round-the-clock support for the forums.

Question of the month answer from James: "This is a toughie! Both are great actors in my opinion... however the winner clearly has to be Victor Meldrew aka Richard Wilson! I'll never forget his famous One Foot In The Grave catchphrase!"

Darren Shelley
Lineups Guru

Darren is responsible for maintaining the huge volumes of data in the channel lineups section of the media zone and also covers Scottish soap River City for the soaps section.
