
Digital Spy is the 4th largest entertainment news website in the UK with in excess of 2.1 million unique users on its main Entertainment News site and 3.1 million on its Forum Network. The only larger properties in terms of audience in the UK are The Sun online, MSN Entertainment and BBC entertainment news (Source: Comscore, Jan 2008). The site registers over 80 million page impressions a month.
Digital Spy is also renowned for its extensive and unique coverage of Big Brother each year through its dedicated spin off site, DS:BB (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/bigbrother/). The site ranks by far as the biggest, non-Channel 4 online destination for Big Brother updates and has won a WebUser gold award ahead of its C4 rival.
The Role
The News Sub-Editor will be responsible for moderating copy in various areas of the site, but will primarily handle Big Brother and entertainment-related stories.
The position will last the duration of the upcoming Big Brother series, which is expected to begin in the first week of June and last for approximately thirteen weeks, but may lead on to other opportunities.
Your Skills
The successful candidate will:
- have an excellent grasp of the English language, spelling and grammar
- have a good understanding and knowledge of the subject matters concerned
- have previous experience of sub-editing
- be able to work quickly and efficiently
- ensure that all copy conforms with the conventions of the Digital Spy Style Guide
- work as part of a team, communicating regularly with the Editor, News Editor and reporting team
Standard shifts will be variable hours, but on average up to five hours per day. Due to the nature of the series, shifts will typically begin in the evenings and run through to the early hours. Any shifts worked during normal weekday daytime hours may be performed at Digital Spy's offices near Waterloo in Central London, while other shifts must be performed from home. You must ensure you have the ability to work from home (i.e. computer with suitably fast internet connection) for such shifts.
