All-new Digital Spy launches tonight
Published Sunday, Oct 17 2004, 01:00 BST | By Neil Wilkes
An all-new version of Digital Spy will go live tonight (Sunday) at 8pm.
As well as a brand new look, style and layout, we're also launching some new news sections and a whole host of new features.
What changes are being made?
The major difference you'll notice is the division of our content into two new and distinct navigational zones: the Entertainment Zone and the Media Zone. In the former, you'll find the latest showbiz, film, DVD, soaps, reality and TV programming news while the latter will be home to news about digital TV, satellite, cable, terrestrial, channels and the TV industry.
Why are the changes necessary?
Feedback and research suggests that, on the whole, our audience falls into one of two camps: those who prefer our traditional digital TV focus and those who mainly read our entertainment coverage. Up until now these two areas of output have come as part of one package; readers have found articles about a new Sky channel, for example, sitting alongside news about Paris Hilton's latest video exploits. The new zone-based system creates a clear separation between these areas while still keeping everything under one roof.
What's new?
In the Entertainment Zone, we're adding a brand new 'showbiz' section for the latest celebrity gossip and music news. At the same time the remits of several existing sections are being widened, including the Soaps section, which will cover soaps and drama; the Film section, which will cover film and DVD; and the Reality TV section, which will cover a larger number of shows. A new daily feature - 'Last Night' - will allow you to rate and give your opinion on TV shows from the night before, and there will also be special attention paid to cult TV programmes.
In the Media Zone, a new section called 'Broadcasting' will house news about the TV industry, broadcast networks and TV channels (previously part of the 'television' section). The zone will be following the latest developments with HDTV, PVRs and the move towards analogue shutoff. We'll also have daily 'Ratings Roundups' featuring overnights from yesterday's primetime schedule, including multichannel broadcasters.
To complement the changes, a number of new forums will be added to the existing lineup.
When does it launch?
The existing Digital Spy will close for business at 7pm tonight ahead of the launch of the all-new Digital Spy one hour later, at 8pm. Our forums will be offline for approximately one hour beginning at 7.30pm while the new design is rolled out.
