Digital Spy Feedback

Having been prodded into action (do stop chortling in the back, you vile curs) by one of our esteemed forum members, it is apparently time for another edition of DS Feedback.

Our first ticket was submitted by Ron, and I've decided to dispense with my initial idea of being nice this time round. Here we go, then:
"Dear Sirs,
I understand that your closing times at the local KFC is about 11.00pm.
You may be interested to know that the service which I received at the drive thru KFC on the area [location details snipped].
I arrived at 9.15 and was informed that it was too late to eat in, the place was half shut and the floor had been swept into piles of rubbish which had not been cleared, areas for eating were blocked off with chairs, this despite a queue of people waiting to be served.
I then went to the drive thru section to be told that mini fillet was not available, neither was gravy, the attitude made me feel that I had imposed on the staff.
Despite this we continued to wait for the meal.
On arriving home less than 10 mins drive, we found that the fries were half cooked and soggy, the lettuce contained the off cut from the bottom of the lettuce, also it was "sad" and totally unappetising and was left to one side.
May I suggest that you pay a surprise visit unannounced and check out the way Joe public is being served! Needless to say, I will not be using your service again, I am not after any sort of refund , it is just sufficient to advise you of the way your business is being run. I would appreciate a reply."

No, dear reader, I'm not making that up. The poor chap was so dismayed by his limp lettuce and floppy fries that he submitted it twice. We did send him a reply ("Please be aware that Digital Spy is a news and discussion website. We do not offer any paid-for products and are not in any way affiliated with KFC.") but as I'm sure you'll agree, this message not only takes the proverbial biscuit but is in a solid position to launch a takeover bid for McVities.

Ah yes, another favourite of mine. This one's from Nadeem:
"HI I WOULD LYK TO B PART OF UR SITE AND GET FREE STUFF, ALSO IM NEW 2 DIS SO CAN U HELP ME WID DIS PLZ."

I do hope you're seated to prepare yourself for a shock - yes, this was sent from someone with a Hotmail account. (This would be yet another reason why people aren't allowed to register on the forums with Hotmail accounts - we have enough people who seem to think that "txt spk" is acceptable as it is.)

Oooh, a bitchy ticket here from Malc:
"Is there any valid reason why you're not updating the so called news on the Michael Jackson trial which is currently on the front page?

"Or are you just going to sit there and ignore the entire defence case since you no longer have anything to slag him off with?"

Now now, put that saucer of milk away. We didn't "slag" him off - we reported on the trial when something interesting (and yes, we had to lower the bar several notches) occurred. The allegations were interesting, as were the developments during the defence phase. We tried, and I think succeeded, to give a flavour of the arguments being presented by both sides.

Moving on then. Here's one from Margaret:
"unable to get link on paul ogrady web said my info wronge"

Paul O'Grady, please take note - Margaret can't get your web's link because her info is "wronge." Can't imagine what the problem is.

Ah, a nice one here from Heather:
"I am just writing to comment on the excellence of the writing of the articles on your website. As a viewer of soaps i regularly look up the latest gossip. Your website is the best i have found especially the writing of daniel kilkelly and likes. Well done!"

Ta, glad you like it.

One here from Chantel:
"all the girls and dumb and they act like they are all poshy and they are bitches"

Allow me to clarify: this was sent to DS:BB and doesn't seem to directly relate to DS in terms of feedback. But, well, we have to read them and it seems only fair that you should read at least one of them too.

Oooh, glad this has come up. Examinus:
"Hello. Why am I allowed so few characters in my services box? I can hardly fit them all in - its very annoying. Thanks."

Hello again, examinus. Well, we got a bit tired of people telling their life stories in their location and services fields. They're intended to give a brief overview of where members live and what TV/internet services they have to speed up query-answering posts in the media forums. After noticing that more and more people were using the fields to publish novellas, we cut down the number of available characters.

Top idea here from Adam:
"I am writing just to suggest a simple suggestion for the site. I think it would be good to have a login page on the main page so that users can configure the main page."
It's on the (ever-popular) to-do list. We plan to eventually introduce a "DS account," from which all DS activities (forum preferences, Morning Alert, etc.) can be managed.

This next one's from Jackie:
"i would just like to say that the phone number with the uplate to win the $1000, is very like deans in the house. The other night i voted twice 4 dean not wanting to trying to get through to the uplate line. Just maybe others are doing it to , which makes it a little infair dont you think, for Dean....."
Thankfully Mr. Wilkes was on hand to decode this one for me - it's a reference to Big Brother Australia. I've still no idea what she's going on about, which strikes me as being a bit "infair."

I say, another nice one. This one's from "Mental":
"I thought i would take this time to say what a good website you guys run here well done keep up the good work.

"I have been a member and helped run many websites and i wish they were half a good as this one keep you chins up this place can only get better from here."

Most kind, most kind.

Site Developments
Development work has now shifted back towards more of a balance between hands-on technical work (e.g. setting up and configuring servers) to developing our sites. Look out for some tweaks rolling out across the main site this week as we expand our RSS feed availability and begin improving the ways we present our non-news recurring content.

DS:BB got off to a good start this year. The Live Updates service being provided by our forum members is especially fantastic - look for a scoreboard-esque page to appear soon. The BB forum itself continues to be a venue for diverse discussion and debate, something we're extremely proud of at DS.

The forum search engine was brought back earlier this month. Very much a positive development.

Keep that feedback coming!
