Strike week

The 1st of February saw the launch of the first map pack 'First Strike' for Call of Duty: Black Ops. To promote this, there was a rather informal PR event that I attended, which pretty much amounted to beer and playing the new maps for a few hours. One guest was drum and bass artist Goldie (who has a penchant for being the first departee in reality shows like Celebrity Big Brother and Strictly Come Dancing). He sat opposite me as we indulged in more than a few team deathmatches, from which I learnt that he swears a lot and hates being gunned down by the M16.

I didn't fare too well myself, as I ended up with a positive kill/death ratio only three or four times out of the many, many games we played. In retrospect, this probably isn't too bad considering it was the first time I played Black Ops, but fittingly, the photographer at the event snapped that photo of me as I had just died for probably the millionth time. On the plus side, I quite liked the maps - particularly the visual design of Kowloon, though I'm probably biased due to my familial roots.
The previous night, bowling fun was had. Alex showed his skills by outscoring everyone else, while the ticket machine seemed to malfunction as it gave us an inflatable club as a prize when we hadn't deserved it. I guess you can't complain with free stuff.

The other notable thing that happened this week wasn't the apparently unfunny Loaded LAFTAs - an awards ceremony that's meant to commemorate the funniest British comedians of the past year (Chris had particular beef with Gordon Smart scooping a prize) - but the fact that Simon got bumped off from interviewing actress Gemma Arterton. In a fit of rage (maybe?), he decided to make half the office look bad by tweeting a photo of a completely deserted desk at 3pm.
Next week: Morgan learns how to shoot someone dead with a handgun. There better be pics.
