Tim Davie will succeed Jenny Abramsky as director of BBC Audio and Music, the corporation confirmed today.
Davie's remit will cover all audio output across the BBC, ranging from the national radio networks to classical music and performance television.
"It is a great privilege to build on the outstanding legacy of Jenny Abramsky and take on the leadership of a very talented team," said Davie. "This is a special role because of the unique cultural contribution of the BBC's audio and music output, which is highly valued by millions of people."
Davie is currently director of the BBC's Marketing, Communications and Audiences division, having joined the BBC in 2005. He was previously vice president for marketing and franchise of PepsiCo Europe.
"As a passionate advocate of radio, I am excited by the challenge of continuing to deliver not only distinctive BBC services but also to support the growth of the medium as a whole across traditional and digital platforms," he added.
Abramsky is leaving the BBC at the end of September to chair the Heritage Lottery Fund.
