Wesley Strick has been hired to script the remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The original 1984 movie, written and directed by Wes Craven, centred on Freddy Krueger, a serial killer who haunts the dreams of sleeping children.

The new version, which studio New Line is hoping to launch to coincide with the original's 25th anniversary, will reportedly explore the psychology of nightmares in more depth.

The first Elm Street film spawned six sequels.

Strick's screenwriting credits include Cape Fear, The Saint and Doom.
