Kate Hudson has been accused of stealing trade secrets for her new cosmetics range.

220 Laboratories claimed that it worked with the actress on hair, skin and body products shortly before she launched her own range with hairdresser David Babaii.

The company's lawyers said she learned about key ingredient volcanic ash while working with the firm.

A spokesperson for Hudson commented: "Kate does not know the plaintiffs and has never met with them or spoken with them.

"Her representatives believe that the claims are baseless and without merit and [they] intend to vigorously defend the lawsuit."

220 Laboratories is asking for damages and legal fees.
