Garraway: 'Fiona Phillips has knifed me'

Kate Garraway reacted angrily after her GMTV colleague Fiona Phillips took a swipe at her in the press last weekend, according to a report.

In a newspaper interview, Phillips claimed that Garraway would be "pleased" to see her leaving the breakfast show. She also hinted that her co-star is an attention-seeker for turning up at the "opening of an envelope".

According to the Daily Mail, Garraway later told a friend: "Fiona has really knifed me. What on earth am I going to do?"

The newspaper also suggests that Kate now fears she will not land the top job at GMTV when Fiona leaves due to her co-star's influence. Phillips is married to Martin Frizzell, the programme's editor.

A source added: "Surprisingly, Fiona seems to be insecure about Kate and how well she is doing, and the kind of coverage she gets."

Garraway's agent Melanie Rockliffe has played down reports of a feud, however. She said: "Kate is in the middle of her contract and she is working as she always does. I don't see what else we can do. I don't know why people are so worked up about this when there are wars going on in the world. That's all I have to say on the matter, thank you."

Phillips announced that she is leaving GMTV last month. She will front her final episode in December.
