Presenting duo JK and Joel have been signed up to host a new weekend show on Radio 1, it was announced today (Friday).

The pair, currently presenters of JK & Joel @ Breakfast on Manchester's Key 103, have won several awards in the commecial sector for their show since it began in 2000.

"JK & Joel have already built a strong reputation – I've heard them in Manchester and felt they sounded really fresh," said Radio 1 controller Andy Parfitt. "I immediately thought they would make a great addition to the Radio 1 line-up. Their style is cheeky but sharp, exactly right for our new daytime sound."

JK and Joel added: "We have had a great time working in Manchester but the chance to reach a national audience is just something we could not ignore. Radio 1 looks like a really exciting place to be at the moment – it's going to be great to be a part of it."
