Mark Protosevich is in talks to pen the US remake of Oldboy for Will Smith and Steven Spielberg.
The Korean original follows a man who is incarcerated for 15 years without explanation. Upon his release, he goes on a revenge-fuelled mission to seek out his captor.
Oldboy is the second film in director Park Chan-wook's Vengeance trilogy, which includes Sympathy For Mr Vengeance and Sympathy For Lady Vengeance.
Protosevich secured a meeting with Spielberg for the project after Smith voiced his admiration for the writer's I Am Legend script. He recently wrote the screenplay for Marvel's upcoming Thor.
