Humax, one of the biggest set-top box manufacturers has announced that it is launching an updated model of its successful PVR-8000T combined Freeview receiver and Personal Video Recorder.

The new model, the PVR-8000T-80, will incorporate an 80GB disc which will provide enough storage for 40 hours of programming. As well as increased storage the unit has had additional functionality added and provides a one-touch record system making use of the new 7-day electronic programmming guide.

The predecessor model - PVR-8000T - was released last year and like the updated model allows the viewer to record Freeview channels and pause live television. The updated model will also provide:
  • A fast and easily navigable EPG which fully supports the extended programme information provided by the BBC allowing customers to plan and record their preferred viewing over the next 7 days with a simple to use, one-touch recording feature. The EPG feature also remains accessible during recording
  • A variable time recording facility which allows the selection of different lengths of recording by pressing an instant record button multiple times to set 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hour and 3 hour recording lengths respectively. Recording length is also extendable while recording is in progress
  • Overlap recording which allows viewers to set the same time for the end of one recording and the start of another
  • A digital audio recording application to record music, concerts or news broadcasts

  • Dale Heathcote, the UK Commercial Director for Humax said: "Customers who are quick to purchase a PVR-8000T-80 will be among the first in the UK to enjoy the versatility of one-touch recording for a whole week’s viewing.

"By giving our PVR double the storage and recording capacity combined with an extended EPG, Humax has leap-frogged competitive offerings to maintain its market leadership."

This new model is expected to resell at £180.
