Forthcoming youth channel BBC3 will have a one-minute news bulletin on the hour, it has been revealed.

Producers of Radio 1 show Newsbeat and BBC Choice's Liquid News are working together on the £1 million project, designed for the "disposable society". BBC3 controller Stuart Murphy has been granted an increased budget in order to develop quality programming for the digital station.

The bulletin will be fronted by a young presenter, and will utilise a split-screen display to provide a "torrent" of information for viewers. A website will accompany the programme, whereby viewers can access more in-depth information and reports, in audio and video format.

One BBC News Executive said, "Stuart is determined to give the disposable society what it wants. But if he got his way completely, he would cram in 20 stories in 11 seconds."
