Sky News is planning a new revamp which will introduce "appointment-to-view" programmes into its schedule.

According to Broadcast, channel chief Nick Pollard is keen to move away from continuous rolling news; instead adopting a format similar to that of most US news networks.

The new shows, which Pollard hopes will form the "building blocks" of the Sky News schedule, will be built around specific presenters, both from the existing team and new recruits.

He added that the switch to a fixed schedule, which is planned for later this year, will still be broken into whenever big breaking news stories dictate.
