'Enterprise' campaign receives $3m

A campaign to save Enterprise has received $3m from members of the space flight industry.

Campaigners of TrekUnited say that they have received "legally binding pledges" from three anonymous donors, reports the BBC.

The three donors, who are said to be "some of the main entrepreneurs in the commercial space flight industry," posted a message on the campaign's website stating that they and most of their colleagues had been inspired by the various Star Trek series.

They said: "Enterprise needs to be renewed for the sake of fan loyalty, for being quality TV, for bringing imagination and hope for a better future to our homes.

"But over all that for inspiring us so strongly that we have fought all our adult lives to bring that future closer to our children and to us."

A spokesperson for the campaign said that a new series would cost around $30m (£15.7m) that they are doing all they can to secure the franchise's future. They now have $3,072,685 (£1,606,845).

Since UPN announced it plans to axe the show last month, campaigners have held rallies to make their disapproval known.
