Jerry Springer has signed a deal with ITV to front a new daily talkshow from the summer, it has been announced.
The controversial presenter replaces Trisha Goddard, who defected from the network to Five earlier this year.
The new show will follow in a similar vein to his US talker, with a mixture of confessional and confrontational stories. An ITV spokeswoman said that British reserve would mean it was unlikely fights would break out on set, "although you never can tell."
The broadcaster is currently airing repeats of Trisha in the 9.25am slot and will debut a new Judge Judy-style series called The People's Court next month. Springer is expected to take over from May or June with his new show, which has an initial run of one month.
