Steven Spielberg has spoken to Time about his new film, Munich.

The film stars Eric Bana as a Mossad agent who leads a secret squad to assassinate 11 Palestinians suspected of planning the murders of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Spielberg told the magazine: "I don't think any movie or any book or any work of art can solve the stalemate in the Middle East today...but it's certainly worth a try."

Spielberg, who is Jewish himself, said that he had not demonized the Palestinians, as "they're individuals [and] they have families." However, the director made it very clear that he condemned what happened in Munich and had no intention of failing to express that.

Munich goes on general release on December 23rd.
