Chris Penn died from a mix of medications and an enlarged heart, it has been revealed.

40-year-old actor Penn, who was discovered at his home in Los Angeles on January 24, died of "non-specific cardiomyopathy", exacerbated by taking a large amount of multiple prescription medications.

"There is absolutely no indication that this is anything but an accident," said county coroner spokesman Craig Harvey, adding: "We know he had several prescriptions, including promethazine with codeine, which featured predominantly in his death."

According to the coroner's report, Penn's heart weighed 700 grams, which is a few hundred grams over the weight of a normal heart. He was not taking any heart medication at the time of his death.

A full report is expected to be released in the next couple of weeks.
