JCE Worthing on March 31st, 2006
Works well most of the time but sometimes has a mind of its own. Remote control battery use heavy if you do much editing - found batteries need rotating to make good contact. Beware fragmenting gets stuck and box stops working and has to be switched off and on again with loss of some programs on HDD. Two red buttons have lead to my picking up handset upside down so pressing record for on/off

I've had the Liteon since January (7months) and it's daibolical. I'm about to return it. Nothing is reliable, even the instructions for connecting via scart were wrong - needed a forum request to get it plugged together correctly! Mine won't let me upgrade the firmware - won't read any of the variety of CDs I've tried. Just lost all of my recordings having had a week when some recordings worked and some just disappeared into the ether despite watching it switch on and apparently start recording. Even starting a recording live by pressing the Record button got nothing this week. Ten days ago it was recording OK . . . If they got it ready for market before launching it we might have had a good machine. With Liteon every day's a Friday afternoon.

I have owned this item for a few weeks now and I am very pleased. The quality of the picture is great, and it was certaily a bargain at the price compared with similarly priced dvd recorders. Lots of disc space to record at the highest setting, so no problem trying to fit it all on the drive. No major problems so far.

Don't go near the 5045 with a barge pole. My Father's machine has always been full of bugs and has never worked properly, and after 18 months of minimal use has now failed completely. The machine's timer will no longer record to either the hard drive or to DVD, and the DVD will not record manually. The machine will record to the hard drive but only after trying again after a "disk fail" message. And all this after updating the firmware to the latest version. He's now bought a Sony.

I have owned one of these for about 18 months at first it was okay but the list of problems since the first few months is endless. For example; it freezes for no reason during playback/record on HD- you have to pull plug out and restart machine. Does not function on timer record Stops recording /playback HD for no reason The worst example occurred recently when I could not record/play anything from HD and the only way I could get this stupid machine to function was to format the HD which meant I lost all the recordings on it. I could go on and on but this should be enough to tell you that these machines are rubbish and should be avoided.

I bought one of these when they first came out. I had no problems at first, but now I have downloaded the latest firmware I've had nothing but trouble. It wont read certain disks, I can't copy from HD to disk and now the b***y screen saver keeps coming on and I have to turn it off and back on again.
