Out of the box this TV is bad. Reds and blues visibly bloomed on the screen until they became unwatchable and everyone looked like they had been tangoed. Fortunately I rent and when I called customer services to ask for my old set back they said that I might have been provided with an unmodified set. It seems that Philips production line lags behind their technology development and the Rental company need to 'chip' all new Philips TVs before installation, so if you're buying beware!! It took them 90 minutes to deliver another set which certainly looks a whole lot better. Impressive service from the rental company but I'm reserving judgment on the TV for another couple of days until I get it fully set-up to my preferrences.

Couldn't live with the second set either so that went back after a week. Had a visit from a senior technician who tried all the different settings I had tried throughout the week but still no improvement. If someone on screen wears a black shirt I expect to see a black shirt not a pixelated shimmering grey shirt. The Philips has now been replaced with a Toshiba but I still don't think the picture quality is as good as a CRT. I must say however that the snooker loked great - until someone moved. Conducted my own experiment with the 14" portable from the kitchen that is about 9 years old. Side by side with the flat screen the picture quality is better on the portable than either of the flat screens so far and I'm very disappointed. I was beginning to think that I was the only one that was noticing the lack of quality but the guy that delivered the Toshiba said that he was experiencing the exact same problems.
