Tom Hanks has assured fans of The Da Vinci Code that the forthcoming movie will stay faithful to the book.

The actor, who plays Robert Langdon in the film, has admitted that he is feeling nervous about how it will be received by the public.

"The pressure is huge on every movie. When a picture opens, everybody involved is throwing up," he told the Daily Record. "That's the way it was before Apollo 13 and Forrest Gump. That's the way it is for The Da Vinci Code. You either make a good movie or you don't - that never goes away."

He added, "We have remained faithful to the tone and done it justice. It's a fantastic whodunnit. The only thing that matters is the story. We understood going in that it was going to be controversial."
