Just installed one of these and first impressions are very good. Unable so far to see any HD test transmissions but SD looks good. Easy to install, albeit a fairly slow process to find all the available channels on Astra 1 and 2. One downside is that there is no facility for using interactive services that I can find! Overalll, it seems the perfect solution for futureproofing without an expensive contract.

Great box I have just got BBC HD Planet Earth on Astra 2 Channel 691 the Quality is amazing
David, Liverpool on May 28th, 2006
The set up is a doddle, the HD test pictures from hotbird and astra 1 are great via a HDMI cable, the ordinary digital pictures via this lead are poor I have to use a scart lead to get good quality pictures for non HD channels.and biggest disapointment is no bbc HD from astra 2.

So far no complaints with this unit (manual is poor though). My SD material is no worse than that from my Sky box. Maybe David of Liverpool should try the 'V-Format' button to avoid upscaling. Actually one improvement would be to make the 'V-Format' automatically switch to the original resolution of the transmission. An update is need for BBC HD. I've updated my box and BBC HD has a big "Wow" factor!

I'm waiting for my new HD plasma, but via scart the SD with BBC HD is very sharp. I cannot seem to get the component outputs to work; nothing in the menu about it. It is dragon cam friendly, but will not unlock the premium Sky channels, despite entering the box number in the cam menu. Also what's the USB port for? The tuner seems about as sensitive as my 2nd generation Sky+, a tad less than a Pace 430n. The LCD display is handy when listening to radio, and the dolby digital is good. Good searching despite an apparent lack of PID search; nothing about this in manual.

Humax HD, The BBC World Cup has excellent pictures. The only problem I have is the sound goes off for a second now and again on HDMI, Panasonic thpv500 37". May be a software problem.

The user manual is very poor. The satellite info is useless.

Superb results on the BBC HD pilot channel on Astra 2 (World Cup football and BBC previews). Also good for the HD channels on Astra 1 (Sat1, Pro7, Astra demo channel and Axine film channel). SD pictures look pretty good to me over the HDMI interface as well. Using this with a Hyundai A321 32in LCD HD Ready TV (GBP600 from ebuyer.com). Great to be an HD pioneer.

Watched the BBC HD coverage of the world cup match between Portigal and Iran via my projector and my Humax, which I had just bought. Fabulous quality, it seems like a very good machine and as a newbie, it was quite easy to use.

Brilliant receiver, brilliant pictures. Help desk via the internet SUCKS

Agree with other reviews re performance BUT Reciever uses a lot of power and runs VERY hot If you have one of these make certain that the ventilation grills are kept clear. Don't cover the grills with papers or video boxes etc. Don't put this receiver at the bottom of a stack of other gear.

Absolutely fantastic first rate, first class HDTV Receiver. Picture quality 10/10 Sound Quality (Dolby Digital) 10/10 Ease of use and set up 10/10 Who needs the exorbitantly high priced subscription based Sky HD when you have a multitude of HD channels out there FTA on 28.2* / 19.2* and 13* Not forgetting of course the good old BBC who are showing some fantastic programmes in glorious HD. Good old BEEB we all love you keep up the good work and give old Murdoch a run for his money

Great product, does what it says on the tin. They have had a few bugs but put most right in fairly short time. I hade have 5-6 set-top boxes and 2 PVR's this along side the Iplayer is definately the best I've had. Had a Sagem PVR which was a nightmare!

Great box - picture and sound quality fantastic. Menu's and EPG a bit poor compared to Sky, but so are most other non sky boxes

I have now been through 6 PVRs of differing makes & styles and this is BY FAR the best out there. Humax are a fantastic company with fantastic customer services. They are constantly improving the box and updating the software so if there are ever any slight glitches, they'll make sure it's seen to in the next update. A HUGE thumbs up from me! If you're looking to buy one, make sure it's a Humax!

A bit late getting this box, but thought that now I had got a Sharp 42 1080p TV should make the most of it. Rather than go the sky route, saw this box and gave it a go. Ok it does have one or two niggles, but it was easy to set up and straight away into BBC HD, with 5.1. All I can say is fantastic, picture and sound quality is just wonderful! SD is not bad either...just hope that the BBC HD trial does past June 2007.
