By Neil Wilkes, Editor
Maud: "hi i am rufus step sister can yu say hi for me tell him i love you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
Neil: Attention Rufus, Maud loves you. Or me.
Katrina: "Do you know yet which broadcasters here in the uk will pick up NBC's Heroes and Fox's Vanished? If not, where do you expect them to go? I have heard that these are some of the best shows coming next season and it would be brilliant if they lived up to the hype!"
Neil: You lot certainly are loving the look of Heroes, judging by the amount of mail I've had on it over the last week. Interest from the broadcasters doesn't appear to match, but this seems like a C4 show to me. Vanished is the most hotly contested new drama from UK broadcasters, with C4, Five, Sky and Flextech all in the running.
Andrew: "If, years into the future, Channel 4 did axe Big Brother, is it possible/likely that Endemol could take it to another network? Also, how safe do you think the show is beyond BB8 and has the next Celebrity BB been confirmed?"
Neil: Yes, it is possible and would be likely but it's going nowhere for a long while yet. Celeb BB hasn't been formally commissioned but again, it's a cert.
Arshad: "Since the first season of Prison Break is over in the states, is there any news on when season two will air in the states and over here?"
Neil: The Schofield boys are likely to return end August/early September on Fox (season two has already begun filming). Expect January again over here.
Sam: "Do you think anyone, maybe UKTV, will show some Simon and Miquita popworld re-runs. I'm suffering from withdrawrals and Alex and Alexa aren't helping."
Neil: The best hope would be the new E4 music channel apparently in the pipeline but even then, I'd say it's pretty unlikely.
David Mackenzie: "I'm amazed to hear that Adult Swim is actually coming to the UK. Cartoon Network in the UK seems more of a kid's channel compared to the US equivalent which airs a few shows geared at animation enthusiasts as well, I think. So, it's not a surprise that it's going to be on Bravo. Can you tell me what other shows will be part of the UK Adult Swim lineup? Will "Home Movies" be included?"
Neil: Home Movies isn't in the launch lineup, although Bravo will be seeking to replenish its roster on a regular basis, so it may turn up at some point. Those shows confirmed so far include Robot Chicken, Hunger Force, Harvey Birdman, Stroker & Hoop, Space Ghost Coast to Coast and Sealab 2021.
Debra: "Why do you only 'spoil' Doctor Who every week? Can we have some spoilers for more shows please, such as Gilmore Girls."
Neil: Sure. I'm now taking requests for the shows you want to see spoiled on a regular basis for a new and improved Tube Talk, coming in a few weeks' time. Yes - it'll be much more informative, look a lot better and possibly even published on time each week. So get any requests in via the usual method. But not Gilmore Girls.
Lee: "Does the new US network The CW have a website as of yet and if so, what is it?"
Neil: Yes. Clicky here.
Denise: "Obviously, love the column. Living stopped showing GA mid-way through series 2. Are they going to start showing it again? If so, when?"
Neil: Okay, I've had a few queries about this - and why Five has apparently been showing season two when I said it couldn't. The first season originally contained fourteen episodes, but only nine of them were shown in the US when it first aired (it was a midseason show last season). The extra five were then shown as part of the second season (which in the end totalled 27 eps!). Five and Living TV have been showing the first season as it was supposed to air. Furthermore, I can confirm that season two will premiere on Living in August.
Pete: "Can you give us any news on recent series Invasion, Surface. Also heard a rumour that Deadwood has been cancelled, is this true? And, as a quickie, what do you recommend from the forthcoming new shows being aired in the U.S.?"
Neil: Invasion and Surface are dead - the time has come for us all to move on. Deadwood is departing the airwaves, but will go out with two movie-length episodes, probably towards the end of 2007. Look out for my previews of the new US fare starting later this week on DS.
Tim: "On a recent trip to the states i got to watch the first 2 episodes of a brand new show called 'What About Brian?' on ABC. I saw that it's recently been recomissioned for a second season, do you know if it will be picked up for airing over here?"
Neil: Channel 4 has this show - expect the Autumn.
Michael: "Will the second series of the Catherine Tate Show be released on DVD soon?"
Neil: No definite date yet, although expect late summer/early autumn. Personally I'd save my money for something funnier - Joey, for example.
Max: "Which channel looks favourite to win the UK rights for NBC's "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip"?"
Neil: Just like Commander-in-Chief / E-Ring last year, broadcasters are holding off on this one - apparently there is some concern over how it will translate here.
Nerissa: "Hey Neil! Just discovered this column and I think it is great! Just wondering when the COMPLETE boxset of Prison Break is going to be available to buy? I refuse to buy boxsets in two parts!"
Neil: I'm with you. August 28 is the date for the COMPLETE set. GRRRR.
jav jjo: "I think your column is awesome. Can you please please tell me how well supernatural is doing in the us and in the uk with ratings?"
Neil: Two pleases and an awesome will get you anything you want. Supernatural is still doing well, averaging around 500k for its first-run on ITV2 Sunday nights. (Blame Big Brother for the drop).
Emma: "I was wondering whether Grey's Anatomy is repeated during the week. I missed thursdays episode and forgot to record it but thought it might be repeated in the week sometime?"
Neil: Nope. Although the good folks at Living will be reshowing all of season one in double-bills beginning Sunday, July 16.
Emma: "Hey Neil, do you know if Channel 4 have recommissioned the fantastically funny I.T. Crowd for a second series?"
Neil: Yes, although I must admit to some confusion over why some people find this show hilarious. I'd say amusing at best. Joey - now there's a funny show.
Jamie: "can you please tell me if the the hallmark channel plan to show early edition anytime in the near future"
Neil: As near as this weekend. The series is currently repeating from the beginning Saturdays and Sundays at 8am.
Daz: "Can't wait for Peter Kay's appearance on Doctor Who. Any info?"
Neil: But of course. Now, this episode - Love & Monsters - is one that will divide Who fans, I predict. Appearances from the Doc and Rose are very scarce; instead the ep is told from the perspective of Elton (Mark Warren), narrating his video diary. He was part of LINDA, a group investigating who the Doctor is. At one of their weekly meets, Victor Kennedy (Kay) turns up, declaring that he is their salvation and promptly takes over. Naturally, he's not how he first appears. Look out also for references to Torchwood, Bad Wolf and several flashbacks to previous episodes. Oh, and they have the fantastic ELO.
That's all for now - more next week!
