Actress Kate Winslet flew home from the set of her new film in order to officially open a new unit for sick children sponsored by the Tiny Lives charity.

The Titanic star cut the ribbon to re-open the neonatal intensive care unit at the Southmead Hospital in Bristol after it underwent a £1.2 million refurbishment.

According to The Sun, Winslet, 30, remarked: "It was a great honour to officially open this wonderful baby unit."

She went on, "The Tiny Lives campaign touched my hear and it is clear that it has made the world of difference to the parents. I'm thrilled to be part of this special day."

The star reportedly spent 2 hours touring the new building, chatting to children and adults who had been cared for in the previous unit.
