Tricia Helfer

Tricia Helfer - supermodel, animal rights campaigner and star of Battlestar Galactica - is now appearing in EA Games' Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. We quizzed the multi-tasking Canadian about working on a game that fans had been anticipating for seven whole years.

What made you want to get involved with Command & Conquer 3?
“I was sent an outline of the game and of the character Kilian Qatar and of the Tiberian universe and I just found it be to be a really fascinating concept. The Global Defence Initiative is really interesting too, so that’s what drew me to it originally.”

How does the process of working on a game differ from that of working on TV?
“You know, for me it was really similar. They’d built a great set and I was working with some great actors. The only difference was that we worked at a faster pace and we had to talk right into the camera. In television you never look at the camera, but with the game you have to talk to the commander, so you’re looking right down the lens of the camera.”

That must have been quite hard to get used to?
“It was hardest early in the morning. People kept saying, ‘Look in the camera, look in the camera!’ I just had to catch on pretty quickly.”

Was there a good atmosphere on set?
“Oh absolutely. You do work at a fast pace but everyone was very well prepared and you just really move from scene to scene. It was just a lot of fun - everyone was really happy to be there and very excited. You know, it’s been seven years since the last Command & Conquer and a lot of work had been put into it so I think everyone was glad to see the months and months of hard work finally start to be filmed. For that reason I think it was probably fun for everybody involved. I was given a huuuuge bouquet of flowers at the end – so huge that I could barely get them into my car. They were filming me trying to get this huge bouquet into my little sports car!”

What was it like to work with Joseph D. Kucan?
“You know, it was fun working with Joe, who’s obviously such a staple and a huge star of Command & Conquer. He looks quite scary with his costume and everything but he was really a lot of fun to work with. We joked around quite a bit but you know, there was a lot of dialogue so we had to be quite focused when we were doing it."

Have you had a chance to play the game yet?
“I’ve seen some of the live action sequences and they’re fantastic. I’ve dabbled a little bit but it’s a little too complicated for me!"

Have you got any other projects lined up?
“I actually just shot a new pilot called Them for Fox with James D'Arcy – an English bloke! It just finished filming last night so hopefully it will get picked up.”

And Battlestar Galactica?
“We’re starting our fourth season in May – I think we’ve got another 22 episodes to shoot, so I’m pretty busy for sure!”
