A session being shown on screen in the press room this afternoon proved a popular distraction from the day-to-day business of reporting on MGEITF.
Who could it be that would stop the hardened journalists from their work?
Paxman? Thompson? Grade?
No. Sir Jimmy Savile.
The great Sir Jim was on stage presenting a special version of Jim'll Fix It Strikes Again which involved creating an Austin Powers type dance sequence for a female TV executive; giving Dawn Airey a part in Coronation Street and fixing it for Jo Clinton-Davis - ITV controller of popular factual - to sing on stage with Starsky & Hutch's David Soul.
All very jolly. But even more jolly for me was getting to sit - sorry, squeeze - next to the great man himself on the actual Jim'll Fix It chair for an up close and personal chat at a little champagne soiree following the event.
Jim didn't miss a trick to flatter and flirt and for all his 81-years he's as sharp as a button. Then - hey presto - Hutch himself, David Soul, turns up for a chat with Jim too, and I'm now in the presence of TWO 1970s TV legends.
So how did I cope? Well you can see for yourself when you read the full interview on DS in the coming weeks.
"How's about that then?"
