
A foreboding sense of mystery governs the narrative, which itself is a variation on the age-old parallel universe plot used in many sci-fi shows over the years. But it is delivered here with a real unnerving nature and disorientation as we witness events through the eyes of Maria (brilliantly played by Yasmin Paige), experiencing the effective loss of her friends. Veteran director Graeme Harper ensures that the pacing of the episode is totally spot on.
Jane Asher excels in her role as Andrea, eliciting both sympathy for her predicament as well as the mandatory booing and hissing for her role in cancelling the existence of Sarah Jane Smith. It serves up the question - what would you do in her shoes? Many would choose life. But this isn't the place to go all Trainspotting is it?
