S02E05

A girl runs after her dog through the streets and heads into a tunnel - where she runs straight into an anomaly. She emerges in a desert landscape, where something roams beneath the sand.

Connor's anomaly detector crashes as a result of someone hacking into it in a bid to reach the anomalies before the team. Oliver Leek visits the tunnel and sends several soldiers through. They don't attempt to rescue the girl, who is perched upon a rock, and are subsequently attacked by the sand-dwelling monsters.

Helen has a shower at Stephen's flat and tries to convince him that Nick Cutter has a hidden agenda. The team, complete with Jenny who has come straight from her own engagement party, go to the tunnel and send a remote controlled buggy into the anomaly. It transmits video images, depicting the young girl.

Despite Abby's advice, Connor opts to dump Caroline via text message. She is not pleased and carries out a savage attack on the pet lizard Rex. Cutter and Stephen go through the anomaly and find the equipment left by the soldiers. They are pursued through the sand by giant crab-like creatures, but manage to reach the girl on the relative safety of the rocks. A bug escapes through the anomaly, prompting Abby and Connor to pursue it through a restaurant before finding it.

Leek's chief soldier, the man Cutter previously recognised, turns up in the sand - the sole survivor of the armed men who passed through the anomaly. He takes Cutter and Stephen's water supplies and their anomaly detector, but is attacked and killed by a bug that emerges through the sand. The same fate almost befalls Stephen, but another bug arrives on the scene and saves his life as he breaks free when they attack each other.

The trio use a bug shell as a sledge and slide down the sand through the anomaly before the creatures can get them. They then emerge in a forest and a caveman approaches them. Cutter punches him, but soon learns that it is actually a present day theme park he is in.
