The area by the tunnel's exit is swamped by jeeps and Scofield eventually leads the others out from the tunnel, rolling underneath the various vehicles before making it through the metal fence previously eroded by Sucre. Bellick leads the guards to the tunnel, but it is now empty. When T-Bag later shows them the tunnel from the outside, he discreetly picks up a book on birds that Whistler dropped earlier.
McGrady's father becomes involved in the plot when he assumes the role that would have been played by Sucre, who is handcuffed to a filing cabinet in the prison. The escapees run through the jungle and onto the beach, although Whistler hurts his ankle in the process. They then dig up a box from under the sand containing oxygen tanks and breathing apparatus and head underwater. They emerge a long way out to sea next to a buoy, where McGrady's father turns up on a boat to pick them up.
On the shore, McGrady goes off with his father while the other four are tracked by Susan and her men due to a tracking device on Whistler. After removing the device, the men head to a shed where a gunfight occurs. However, they manage to leave the building unknown to Susan's men as a boom-box blares out loud gunshot sounds from inside.
T-Bag is being interrogated by the guards when he notices Sucre in an adjacent room. He subsequently reveals Sucre's real identity to them, which the authorities confirm.
Burrows and Susan agree to meet in a vacant warehouse, but he then aims his gun at Mahone for killing his father. The former FBI Agent manages to escape though, when Whistler jumps through a window and sprints away, stealing a car. The brothers are now alone waiting for Susan to turn up.
