Leona considers throat surgery

Leona Lewis may undergo surgery to help cure her painful bouts of tonsillitis, The Sun reports.

The X Factor winner, who looks destined for a US number one with 'Bleeding Love', fears her recurring throat problems could damage her career.

"Leona has been consulting top throat surgeons in Britain and America," a source said.

"She has been told she could need an operation to put an end to the problem for good. Any operations are scary, but for a singer to have a throat op is particularly terrifying."

Leona recently appeared on Oprah Winfrey's influential talk show with mentor Simon Cowell and revealed that she "had tonsillitis for the whole week before so I was desperately trying to get better in time".

A spokesman for the singer confirmed that Leona is considering the operation, saying: "Leona would like to reassure fans this is a routine operation which will not affect her voice.

"She has sought specialist advice for this. If an operation becomes necessary, it would be a routine procedure."
