John takes Jack back to Cardiff 27AD and reveals that he performed the dastardly acts under duress and surveillance from Gray - Jack's long lost brother. Gray arrives and hugs his brother, before stabbing him and putting him into a grave. He explains that he felt abandoned by Jack as a child and was subjected to endless torture following his capture. Back in the present day, a nuclear reactor is on the verge of meltdown and the team are trying to remotely prevent catastrophe.
John and Gray separately return to the present day Hub, with the former telling Gwen that he is innocent. However, as Tosh is working to prevent meltdown she is shot by Gray.
Gray hears some banging in the Hub vaults and finds Jack inside, who subsequently renders his brother unconscious with chloroform. Owen is at the power plant trying to prevent meltdown, with the help of a badly hurt Tosh via radio. An unexpected power surge causes Owen to be trapped inside the control room - meaning certain death - and he and Tosh trade goodbyes. Jack and Gwen discover Tosh shortly after and she dies in their arms.
Captain John embarks on his travels and Jack puts Gray in deep freeze. Along with Gwen and Ianto, the trio watch a video message from Tosh that was triggered to play if she died, in which she expresses her thanks and love to the team.
