Spears "couldn't wait" for sitcom return

Britney Spears has said she "couldn’t wait" to reprise her role as a doctor's receptionist in US sitcom How I Met Your Mother.

The singer's first appearance was praised by critics and earned ratings of 10.6 million, an increase of almost 2 million on the show's season average.

She filmed her second cameo, in which her character Abby falls for womaniser Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), last week. It will air on CBS on May 12.

She said in a statement: "I had such a great experience the last time I was on the show that I couldn't wait to come back.

"I was really looking forward to working with this cast and crew again. Everyone was so nice. Abby is going to have a lot of fun!"
