Ireland's Eurovision entry Dustin the Turkey has crashed out in the semi-final of the singing competition.

The puppet will not now compete in Saturday's final in Serbia. Greece, Romania, Armenia, Finland, Israel, Poland, Russia and Bosnia all qualified.

Norway and Azerbaijan also won slots in the song contest. The second semi-final takes place tonight.

The selection of Dustin the Turkey, who has released six studio albums, was criticised by Irish songwriters earlier this year.

Keith Mills, editor of the official Irish Eurovision website, told the BBC: "It was a three-minute joke that wasn't especially funny, didn't work for an international audience and looked very messy on screen."

X Factor contestant Andy Abraham will represent the UK in Serbia on Saturday.
