The 22-year-old actor, who recently graduated from Aussie drama school NIDA, said that he enjoyed playing the character of Fish in the adaptation of Tim Winton's award-winning Australian novel.
Johnstone-Burt told The Daily Telegraph that it was "incredible" working with Stephen Curry and Emma Booth and said that he became great friends with former Home and Away star Todd Lasance, who plays his on-screen brother Quick.
Talking about auditioning for the role, he said: "You always know when you come out how you've gone. I supposed I walked out thinking I did a good job. Then I had to sit by the phone for a month and hopefully get a call."
