The comedian, who debuted Aussie television series Live From Planet Earth last week, has been criticised by the media after failing to get audiences of more than 455,000 viewers.
Nine Network boss David Gyngell told The Daily Telegraph: "Like everyone involved, of course I'm disappointed with the ratings for Ben's show, but certainly not the energy and talent he and his team is putting into it.
"We continue to support local and international comedy, and it's always better to chance your arm and have a go than to take the safe way out and do nothing."
Another Channel Nine spokesperson said: "Ben's comedy track record speaks for itself, and Nine fully supports Ben and the production."
Elton added: "I have found it astonishing the feeding frenzy that has gone on this week. I do find it funny that the Australian public plays the ratings game."
