2011 Logie Awards
Laurie Oakes has been inducted into the TV Week Logies Hall of Fame.

The Australian television reporter, who is best known for interviewing politicians on the Nine Network, was awarded the title at the Logie Awards last night and joked that he is more hooked on journalism than drugs.

According to AAP, Oakes said: "I'm an addict, I confess that. And here I am being honoured with membership of the Logies Hall of Fame for mainlining my drug of choice for 47 years and doing it for more than 30 years in full view of the television camera. I'll be pushing small packets of journalism at the afterparty."

He said that he finds it "hard to believe" that he is joining legends such as Mike Willesee and Brian Naylor in the Hall of Fame, adding: "But whether I'm worthy or not I'm pleased that the information side of the television industry is again being recognised."

Last month, Oakes revealed that he is quitting his Sunday morning show Oakes Interview after 30 years.

He said: "I've been at it a long time and I've decided, in my advanced years, to have a bit of a life. I haven't had a regular weekend for as long as I can remember."

Stars such as Karl Stefanovic, Rebecca Gibney, Chrissie Swan and Firass Dirani won awards at last night's event.
