Hip-hop artists have slammed the Angry Boys creator, who plays young American black rapper S.Mouse in his recent series, saying that he should not be using serious racial issues to create comedy.
LA-based musician Open Mike Eagle told thevine.com.au: "I don't give a damn how 'meta' this cat thinks he is, it doesn't give him a pass to exploit the history of race relations for a cheap laugh."
MC Zilla Rocca added: "He picked rappers who record dumb songs, talk like illiterates, and live up to the stereotypes of rappers my mum frowns upon. Sadly, this is not the current state of the American pop rapper. He is ten years late on his 'clever' takedown."

Lilley was recently forced to defend Angry Boys after being accused of racist slurs with character Ruth Sims, who is seen using words such as "n***o" and "w*gs" in the series. He said that although Ruth's behaviour is "not appropriate", he as a creator is only trying to be "funny".
He also revealed that criticism does not worry him, saying that he makes his shows for "the people who love it and get it".
