The show's presenter Ewen Page said that co-star Shane Jacobson was set on fire as part of a stunt for the upcoming series of the motoring show.
Page told the Herald Sun that Jacobson, who recently lost a lot of weight, "smelt like pork" as he tried to put the flames out. He added: "Admittedly there was less of him to burn through than there would have been last year."
The star said that the stunt was carried out under strict safety rules in a bid to allow them to have a bit "more fun" on the programme.
Page also said that the presenters have "relaxed a bit more" in this season.
"I can't watch the last series - it's uncomfortable," he admitted. "This year we all know each other a bit better and we're less scripted."
Shortly after Top Gear premiered in Australia, TV bosses slammed rumours that it was facing the axe.
Around the same time, Jacobson admitted that he was constantly facing criticism because he was living in the shadow of Top Gear UK. He said: "For us, it's about finding the balance."
