The new period drama, which stars former Neighbours actor Daniel MacPherson and Packed to the Rafters' Zoe Ventoura as lovers, beat the latest season of previous ratings winner Underbelly in the viewer figures last weekend.
According to AAP, Wild Boys attracted an audience of 1.674 million, with Underbelly: Razor coming in second place with 1.550 viewers.
Current affairs programme Sunday Night was the third most popular show with 1.474 million viewers and the Channel Nine and Channel Seven news slots took fourth and fifth place. Other shows included in the top ten most-watched shows included Bones, Castle and Grand Designs Revisited.
Actress Anna Hutchison, who plays town mayor's daughter Emilia Fife in Wild Boys, recently said that she is "really excited" about her role in the drama as it is "very different" to her role in the 2009 series of Underbelly.
Ventoura and MacPherson are currently rumoured to be dating in real life, but have remained coy about the reports. They have, however, commented on their "strong chemistry".
