The 30-year-old Australian actress, who used to play Anne Wilkinson alongside Jesse Spencer's Billy Kennedy in Neighbours, has spent the past few weeks filming a "guest role" for the Rebecca Gibney family TV drama.
An industry insider told The Daily Telegraph: "She's a lovely girl and talented - she will play a main part." They also revealed that it was "too early" to give details about the character Satchwell will play.
It is believed that Satchwell has been brought in to fill the void left by the departures of Jessica Marais, who played Rachel Rafter, and Zoe Ventoura, whose character Mel Rafter was killed off last year.
It is also rumoured that cast members Hugh Sheridan and Angus McLaren are planning on quitting the show.
Satchwell quit the television industry after alleging in 2006 that she was assaulted by then-boyfriend Matthew Newton. They split and he pleaded guilty to charges of assault but his penalty was later overturned.
Newton's acting career later blossomed with a leading role in crime drama Underbelly, but he was then accused of attacking former girlfriend Rachael Taylor in 2010, which led to him spending most of the past year in a psychiatric clinic.
A friend of Newton claimed last year that he still had feelings for Satchwell, saying: "His family is resigned to the way he feels about Brooke.
"In a way it's kind of sweet because the majority of the time they were beautiful together. It's just that now, after everything that has happened, it would be very, very complicated."
