The Australian comedian, whose new series Angry Boys was released in the UK and Australia last year to mixed reviews, said that he is "overwhelmed" with the US response to his latest group of characters from actors including Jonah Hill and Jaime King.
Superbad and Knocked Up star Hill wrote on his Twitter page: "Angry Boys is brilliant," while Sin City's Jaime King wrote on the microblogging site: "Once again Chris Lilley has managed to create a profound, poignant and truly f**king hilarious show. Everyone must watch."
Bridesmaids actress Wendi McLendon-Covey also wrote a message to Lilley saying: "I'm watching Angry Boys now and loving it as much as your other shows." Lauren Koslow from Days of Our Lives and Chuck star Adam Baldwin also commented on the series, praising Lilley for his "great characters, thoughtfulness and laughs".
Lilley later said: "The response from the US audience has been overwhelmingly positive so I couldn't be happier. They seem to particularly like S.mouse. It's a massive thrill to know the show is reaching a huge audience in another country. Very proud."
The comedian has come under fire from various hip-hop artists for Angry Boys rapper S.mouse. MC Zilla Rocca described the character as "dumb" and "ten years late", while Open Mike Eagle labelled the comedy show "cheap".
Lilley later revealed that criticism does not worry him, saying that he makes his shows for "the people who love it and get it".
Angry Boys airs on HBO in the US.
