The Australian television personality quit her presenting role on Dancing with the Stars last year in order to defect to the Nine Network. She was recently announced as the new host of breakfast TV show Mornings, alongside singer David Campbell.
Kruger told National Features: "Nine had the opportunities, going forward that I needed. As much as I loved Channel Seven and Dancing with the Stars, after 11 series I just knew I had to move on and I really wanted to try something new and have a bit of fun."
Mornings will take the place of Kerri-Anne Kennerley's long-running show.
Kruger said of the controversial replacement: "I've always been a long-time admirer of KAK. She's been a great role model for a lot of women in television, for a long time. How [Nine] handled it really had nothing to do with me."
However, Kruger admitted that she did feel like a traitor when she first arrived that the network studios after working for their rival for years.
"Driving through the gates at Nine was strange," she said. "You skulk around hoping no one will see you... but honestly, it's been good."
Kruger also said of new co-host Campbell: "He's got a lot of ideas, he will have fun, get in there and make it his own. I will probably end up the 'straight' person and he will be the clown."
Mornings premieres on Monday, February 6 from 9am on the Nine Network.
