Among the couples taking part in this year's reality renovation series are the show's first ever mother-and-son and father-and-daughter teams.
According to The Daily Telegraph, 22-year-old Jessie was originally supposed to audition for The Block 2012 with her mother, but she was tragically killed in a plane crash last year. The student said of her father stepping in: "Dad knew how much she wanted to do it and said he would do it with me."
"Biased" mother Rana said that her son Brett will make for good viewing because he can be "impatient, stubborn and quite bossy", but added that he is also "thoughtful", "generous" and "cute as".
Contestant and handyman Andrew has already admitted that he was shocked when he was told he would be taking part in The Block alongside his younger brother Mike, because he had just proposed to his girlfriend Emilie that same day. He said that he feels bad about leaving his fiancée "all alone" for 10 weeks during filming.
Sophie and Dale are a married couple from Melbourne. She is a graphic designer who likes to "sew clothes and illustrate children's books", while he is a landscape gardener who enjoys looking after their organic vegetable patch.
Other couples taking part in The Block include 30-year-old dating couple Brad and Lara from East Maitland, 22-year-old newlyweds Brendan and Michelle, and Brad and Courtney from Western Australia.
Polly Porter and Waz Jones were the victors of The Block 2011. She then went on to take part in Celebrity Apprentice.
