Kruger sorry for 'DWTS' slurs against Edelsten

Sonia Kruger has apologised for taunting a contestant on the first episode of this year's Australian Dancing with the Stars.

The Aussie television presenter, who co-hosts the reality TV contest with Daniel Macpherson, made jibes backstage about the age difference between Brynne Edelsten and her 67-year-old entrepreneur husband Geoffrey.

According to the Herald Sun, Kruger joked to Edelsten about her spouse: "I think it's nice you get on so well with your dad."

Fellow contestant Lara Bingle's best friend Hermione Underwood, who was sitting in the audience, wrote on her Twitter page that "things just got very very heated w a certain star's husband and a judge (sic)," and suggested that "security" might be needed.

Kruger later presented Edelsten with some flowers and tweeted: "I do love Brynne! She is much fun and we all wish her fun on this show.''

New judge Josh Horner also caused controversy for referring to Edelsten as "a bedazzled potato sack", while Helen Richey called the socialite's dance routine "frightening".

The judges were impressed with both Bingle and chef Manu Feildel's performances on last night's premiere, despite the swimwear model recently revealing that she was very "nervous" about dancing in public.

Other stars taking part in the show include golfer Jan Stephenson, Home and Away star Dan Ewing and sportsman Nathan Bracken.
