The television personality, who currently presents Dancing with the Stars alongside Daniel MacPherson, is believed to have defected from the Seven Network to the rival Nine Network in order to front the revamped version of the fly-on-the-wall reality show when it returns next year.
According to the Herald Sun, Kruger beat off competition from comedy duo Hamish Blake and Andy Lee, who recently returned to the country following a stint working in the US.
The Australian version of Big Brother was hosted by Gretel Killeen from 2001 until 2007, but radio partners Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O took over for the last series in 2008.
Kruger has worked for Seven since 1997, but her contract came to an end last month. TV presenter Fifi Box, who currently narrates Four Weddings, has been named as a potential replacement for Kruger on Dancing with the Stars.
Kruger caused controversy on Dancing with the Stars earlier this year when she referred to Brynne Edelsten's older husband Geoffrey as her "dad". She later said that she was mortified about the "lame" joke.
