Kruger is believed to have been lured from the Seven Network to the rival Nine Network after being offered presenting roles on both the revamped version of Big Brother and on a new breakfast show rumoured to be replacing Kerri-Anne Kennerley's morning show.
Current Dancing with the Stars presenter Daniel MacPherson revealed that he would love Bassingthwaighte to join him for the twelfth series of the show, telling The Daily Telegraph: "Within the network I think Nat would be great. I think she would be a great choice."
However, he did concede that Bassingthwaighte may not be able to commit to the role due to her young daughter Harper, plans for her wedding to Cameron McGlinchey and her judging role on The X Factor Australia.
MacPherson added: "You never know what might happen. She does have a lot going on at the moment. I think [Sonia's] are the biggest shoes to fill in television and I think whoever it is shouldn't try and emulate what [she] does."
When asked about the Dancing with the Stars rumours, Bassingthwaighte's spokesperson refused to comment, saying only: "It's all about X Factor and [her protégé] Andrew [Wishart] for the next week or so."
