The television presenter, who recently had her breakfast TV show axed, said that she hopes the dancing training for the show will get her into shape.
Kennerley told The Morning Show: "We've started training. I've become quite attached to [dance partner] Carmelo [Pizzino] after only a couple of days. It is a lot of fun. Everyone thinks it's easy [but it's] hard. I'm scared [but] looking forward to it. I think I'm really excited."
She said that people think she is a good dancer because she has danced with both Patrick Swayze and Will Smith on her show, but added: "I have never formally danced".
Kennerley said that her "biggest competition" on Dancing with the Stars will be the "skinny young things" like Erin McNaught and Vogue Williams. She joked of shooting the promotional video: "So much fun having Miss Universe here and a six-foot Irish amazon here."
She added that she hopes Dancing with the Stars will help her get in shape, saying: "I really am looking forward to it because I want to get fitter. This will be the impetus."
Kennerley also said that she has "slipped right into" being a lady of leisure and "not getting up early", but admitted that she does have a new show with the Seven Network "a little bit down the track". She added: "Unfortunately I cannot tell you anything."
