The first episode of the third season of the reality cooking show, which stars Matt Preston, George Calombaris, Gary Mehigan and new judge Matt Moran, was the most watched TV programme last night.
According to The Daily Telegraph, MasterChef was viewed by 1.569 million people, but the Logie Awards on Channel Nine gained an audience of 1.323 million.
All the judges were spotted at the awards show, with Preston even logging on to his Twitter page and writing "oops" about the Logies dinner they were served.
Last month, Calombaris revealed that this season of the competition would be "big" and Preston said that he wanted this series to be "natural" after last year's "dramatic performing".
Other popular shows last night included the Channel Seven and Nine Network news broadcasts and current affairs interview show Sunday Night.
MasterChef won the Logie award for 'Most Popular Reality TV Show'.
