Monday night's Australian MasterChef has topped television ratings.

According to AAP, more than 1.5 million viewers tuned in to watch Melbourne wannabe chef Chelsea Fammartino leave the show after failing to impress judges with her fried rice and sweet and sour pork dish.

Fammartino went head-to-head with fellow contestants and friends Rachel McSweeney and Ellie Paxton-Hall in the Asian cuisine challenge, but the judges labelled her pork "tough" and her sauce "vinegary".

After her elimination, she said: "Even though the MasterChef doors are closing behind me, I know that there are many more doors about to open and I'm excited. Without a doubt, this has changed my life."

David Walliams and Matt Lucas's new series Come Fly With Me made it into the top 10 shows of the night with an audience of 1.283 million people.

New programme The Amazing Race, which is based on the American CBS format, had 1.144 million viewers, Home and Away had an audience of 1.12 million, while comedy drama Offspring just fell shy of 1 million viewers.
